Pacify Summer's Fire: Expand your body and let the pitta out!

With the Corn Moon less than a week away and moonlight particularly calming for pitta imbalances, I invite you to journey with half moon pose (Ardha Chandrasana) to quench your fire.

Be playful with the pose and explore possibilities, such as connecting it with extended triangle pose (Utthita Trikonasana) to release excessive pitta energy in the solar plexus area and throughout the frontside and backside of the body as well as the palms of the hands and soles of the feet.

While exploring this connectedness, splash some cooling breaths (Sheetali Pranayama) into this pitta pacifying practice to further cool the body and soothe mind and emotions. Another appeasing possibility is to relax with a mind chilling meditation or a hypnosis to lower your body temperature.

When considering taste, pitta is subdued by sweet, bitter and astringent foods. So eat up lots of sweet fruits, such as watermelon, peaches, and cherries, as well as cooling vegetables like leafy greens and cucumbers and herbs such as cilantro, mint and turmeric -but refrain from eating hot, spicy foods- to bring balance during summer, or the pitta season.

The possibilities in journeying with movement are endless so enjoy the ride! ...and if you feel inspired to share your pitta alleviating creativity in pose, breath, or recipes please do comment. #lightnessofbeing #mindmovementandadvocacy #journeywithlightness #lightnessofmovement #ayurveda #fire #pitta #summer #moonlight #ardhachandrasana #halfmoonpose #cornmoon #sheetalipranayama #coolingbreath #sweetbitterastringentfoods #summerbalance
